Leopold Müller Award

Since 1984 the Leopold Müller Award is made to honour approved excellent Doctoral theses, which deal with the integral approach to geotechnical engineering in the sense of Leopold Müller, and according to the goals of the Society.

Entitled for the Award are theses with following topics:

  • Research of characteristics of rock and soil and their behaviour under different boundary conditions
  • Improvement of construction methods, design and layout of rock and soil engineering structures aiming at safe, economical, sustainable and environmentally friendly projects
  • Improvement of methods for design, construction, and maintenance of rock and soil engineering structures
  • Further development of contractual issues for soil and rock engineering structures

Prize money: € 3.000.-
Number of awards: Maximum 1 per year
Submittal: Upload of the thesis (as PDF file) using the "SUBMIT" button including the report of the supervisor (also as PDF file), additionally one copie (hardcover) of the thesis must be sent to the OeGG
Date of submittal: Latest by December 31st
Evaluation procedure: The thesis is reviewed by a committee appointed by the Board.

The final decision on the award of the prize is made by the Board. The Leopold Müller Award is awarded at the Geomechanics Colloquium of the following year.
